Hola Africa
Reality Show
The Hola
Africa reality show to be held in
South Africa, is being organised by
African Broadcast Media Partnership
as part of its campaign Against HIV
and Aids.
The
partnership has more than 40
broadcasters drawn from 33 African
countries including the Zimbabwe
Broadcasting Holdings.
Studio 263
actress Yvonne Mangunda, Midlands
State University student Karen
Chenaimoyo Dhliwayo and National
University of Science and Technology
student Trymore Murakwani, came out
the best out of about a hundred
entrants from Zimbabwe.
ZBH finance
and corporate services general
manager Semukeliso Gono, who is
Zimbabwe's ABMP designated
responsible officer and the local
spokesperson for Hola Africa, said
all but one of the 33 countries
included in the partnership had
forwarded details and video
interviews of their three national
finalists to the ABMP secretariat in
South Africa.
ABMP decided
to use on-camera interviews, the
contestants' application forms and
follow-up telephone interviews to
select 24 continental
semi-finalists.
Twelve of
these would take part in the reality
show that is to be broadcast in all
33 African countries each week from
September until the World Aids Day
to be held on December 1.
Gono said
follow-up telephone interviews with
Zimbabwean finalists were conducted
last Friday and that ZBH was now
awaiting the outcome of the
selection process. She also said
that Arthur Marime who has been
incorrectly referred to in some
newspaper reports as the country's
spokesperson for Hola Africa had
only been asked by ZTV to interview
the national semi-finalists for a
television programme that would be
screened on ZBC TV soon.
"We asked
Marime to interview the contestants
for a two-hour programme that will
soon be screened on ZBC TV. He is
not the reality show's spokesperson,
contrary to assertions in some
newspapers.
His only
involvement with Hola Africa has
been as the interviewer in the
television programme that ZBC TV has
recorded for the benefit of its
viewers," she said.
